The Bay is bringing family fun to the main stage this weekend. Head out to the Ferry Building this Saturday to enjoy the Edible Excursions tour, or watch "A Strange Loop" at the American Conservatory Theater. In the heart of the Mission District, Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros will spotlight SF's Latinx community and the power of literature. Oakland Roots soccer team is bringing culture to the field against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks and Telegraph Ave in Berkeley will be "popping" for Telegraph Boba Day. Head out to 826 Valencia's eighth annual Storytellers' Showcase! Students from 826 Valencia's programs in the Mission, Tenderloin and Mission Bay neighborhoods will read their original writings for their families and community. The young authors have been reflecting on the theme "Write Here, Write Now." Hear their powerful, joyful expressions from the stage. The event will have family-friendly activities and live music from funk duo Tall Tee and BART will be in attendance as well. Celebrate with the community 0.4 miles from Powell St.

On Day 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kristina Wong began sewing masks out of old bedsheets and bra straps on her Hello Kitty sewing machine. Before long, she was leading the Auntie Sewing Squad, a work-from-home sweatshop of hundreds of volunteers—including children and her own mother—to fix the U.S. public health care system while in quarantine. It was a feminist care utopia forming in the midst of crisis. Or was it a mutual aid doomsday cult? The answer to that question is something you’ll have to decide for yourself as Kristina takes you through her journey in this Pulitzer finalist play. This two-man play at the Aurora Theatre Company showcases over a century of history in a very personal way. The story follows Lewis, a Black mathematics professor. During a night of sleepless delusion, he meets three generations of Black ancestors who lived during times of enslavement, Jim Crow and Black Power. Running through September 2024, Hip Hop On the Plaza will feature a dynamic lineup of programming, including weekly dance workshops and bi-monthly dance battles that will transform UN Plaza into a hub of creative expression and community engagement. Kids of all ages are heading to Civic Center/UN Plaza to partake in the festivities just 0.1 mile away.
