On a recent Saturday morning, Thu Nguyen made her way to the Hayward Maintenance Complex, where a dozen workers were busy uprooting old track and laying the groundwork for a new track switch under the morning sun.
When Nguyen arrived, the workers – all men – in their bright yellow safety vests and hard hats greeted her with exclamations and smiles.
“Hi, everyone!” said Nguyen, smiling back.

BART’s 19th St/ Oakland station and the surrounding neighborhood is a bustling hub of commerce, activity, and transit centered in the heart of Oakland.
At El Cerrito del Norte Station on a recent weekday morning, heads turned and eyes widened at an unusual sight along the station platform. An adult male Harris hawk, named Pac-Man, sat serenely perched atop his handler’s gloved wrist preening himself.
Though Pac-Man doesn’t know it, he’s got a very important job to do: manage the pigeon population at the above ground BART station.

The 52nd annual San Francisco Pride Parade and Celebration will be held this Sunday, June 26th and BART will increase service to carry attendees to and from the festivities.
BART will open at 8am and will run five-line service until 8pm with special event trains as ridership warrants. After 8pm, BART runs 3-line service. BART anticipates full service on all lines.
The parade will begin at 10:30am at Market and Beale Streets, closest to the Embarcadero Station.
It will end at Market and 8th Streets, closest to the Civic Center Station.

BART has a long history of supporting its LGBTIA+ employees and the community at large. In addition to proudly walking in the San Francisco Pride Parade each year, BART has been a trailblazer in transit, working to secure the rights of LGBTIA+ individuals internally and externally.
BART is turning 50 years old and is inviting the public to help it celebrate. Riders are encouraged to save the date for a public celebration at Lake Merritt Station on Saturday, September 10, 2022. The 50th Birthday Party and Family Fun Festival is free to the public and will be from 11am-4pm. The event will include food trucks, music, games, prizes, and the opening of a time capsule.
