Afro-Cuban Jazz legends Chucho Valdés and Arturo Sandoval will reunite this weekend as part of Irakere 50, the 70s/80s band that changed the course of Latin music. The master pianist and expert trumpeter will be joined by Afro-Cuban superstar and Grammy Award-nominated Cimafunk. Catch this one-night-only jazz show at Paramount Theatre is just steps from 19th St/Oakland.

 

"Back to the Future – The Musical"

"Back to the Future: The Musical," winner of multiple awards, including the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, has arrived in San Francisco. Oakland Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade

Feb. 22 | 8th St. and Madison St.

Celebrate the Year of the Snake in the East Bay at the 3rd annual OCIC Lunar New Year Parade. Spectators will love the colorful floats, lion and dragon dances and martial arts performances. Experience the festive atmosphere and savor delicious food just steps from Lake Merritt.

 

Black History Month Demo and Workshop at West Oakland Library

Feb. 22 | West Oakland

1–3 p.m. | 1801 Adeline Street

 

Presented by the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland (AAQGO), this annual workshop at the West Oakland Library teaches participants about African American quilting. Members from AAQGO will lead the way by making a quilt block, but all ages and experience levels are welcome. The West Oakland Library is 1 mile from West Oakland station.

 

An Afternoon of Chamber Music

Thanks to the San Francisco Civic Music Association, you can experience live classical music this weekend near BART. Talented local musicians will perform a two-hour concert featuring a variety of string and piano quartets 0.7 miles from 24th St Mission.

 

Black Joy Parade

The 8th annual Black Joy Parade is happening on Sunday in Oakland. The theme "Find Joy in the Small Moments" encourages us to celebrate the little things. Celebrate joy, dine, drink and shop just steps from 12th St/Oakland City Center

Annual Black History Month Jazz Brunch

Head to Swan’s Market this weekend for music by Jazz Mafia featuring Oakland native and beautiful vocalist Yvette Pylant. Pier 23 Pop Up Book Fair
