Happy hours are a great way to unwind, socialize with friends and treat yourself to drink deals and food specials at fun restaurants and bars. While there are loads of lively happy hours full of vibrant atmosphere and deep discounts in the Bay Area, we've listed our favorite five. From creative cocktails to tasty bites, lakeside views and live music, these unique happy hours near BART are worth checking out.

One Market | Embarcadero

Happy hour at upscale American eatery One Market is hard to beat. Every Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., expect daily specials such as $7 Faction Brewing 1970s Lagers, $8 select wines and $9 cocktails. One Market’s happy hour also includes yummy bites, like traditional latkes ($4.25) and chickpea fries ($9). For a full meal, try Mark n' Mike's Signature Sandwich on twice-baked rye or challah with a pickle. While the cocktails and bites are delicious here all week long, stop by on Thursdays and Fridays for a real treat when iconic piano man Billy Philadelphia entertains patrons. Take BART to Embarcadero for delightful deals and live music 0.1 miles away at 1 Market St.

PABU Izakaya | Embarcadero

“Izakaya" means "stay-drink-place" in Japanese and that's just what you will want to do in this Michael Minna restaurant. Grab a drink, get comfortable and stay a while. Happy hour offers discounted prices on some of the establishment’s most popular cocktails, like the Suntory Highball, which consists of Suntory whisky, soda and a lemon twist. However, the deals on jet-fresh seafood flown in from Japan's Toyosu Market make this place really shine. Items like Panko-fried shrimp, a Negihama hand roll and Inari are delicious. Plus, they're all under $10. Happy Hour runs Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Take BART to Embarcadero for fresh food and popular cocktails 0.1 miles away at 101 California St.

El Techo de Lolinda | 16th St. Mission

Enjoying happy hour with a group? The $18 Sangria Pitcher at El Techo de Lolinda is perfect for sharing. More happy hour drinks include $7 tequila cocktails and $5 beers. Also on the menu is savory Latin American street food. Favorites include fried ripe plantains with sour cream, chili and lime empanadas de carne. Located in the heart of the Mission with rooftop views, this place is usually pretty busy. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is lively, and the small bites and discounted drinks really hit the spot. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Take BART to 16th St. Mission and stroll 0.6 miles away to 2516 Mission St.

The Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill | Lake Merritt

Nestled on the beautiful shores of Lake Merritt, the views from Lake Chalet’s 80-foot bar are stunning. Plus, the menu at this East Bay happy hour near BART is extensive. On Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lake Chalet offers a selection of $6 Chalet ales and $10 cocktails and wines. The Nickle Dime Margarita with 100% agave tequila, agave nectar and lime is the perfect concoction to enjoy on a warm day. And since patrons won’t be in any rush to leave this beautiful waterfront location, why not add some discounted bar bites to the tab? There's a selection of sliders, including sliced prime roast beef, blackened salmon and buttermilk fried chicken, ranging from $5 to $6 each. There are also $2 Marin Miyagi oysters from Tomales Bay, fries, wings, crispy brussels sprouts and more. Take BART to Lake Merritt for a scenic happy hour 0.4 miles away at 1520 Lakeside Dr.

Social Bird Kitchen & Bar | Lafayette 

Social Bird, a neighborhood restaurant in Lafayette’s Restaurant Row, offers a fun happy hour near BART every Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy $7 craft cocktails, $6 craft beers, $6 wines and small plates, including $1.50 oysters, buttermilk fried popcorn chicken and Snake River Farms wagyu beef sliders. Social Bird has a lively dining room and three pretty patios. It’s the newest venture for owners Esin and Curtis deCarion. They also own two popular restaurants in Danville: Esin Restaurant and Bar and Revel Kitchen & Bar. Take BART to Lafayette Station for craft drinks and sustainable American fare 0.2 miles away at 3593 Mount Diablo Blvd.
