It's the time of year where haunts reign supreme, and we all are looking for the thrill of Halloween without paying an arm and a leg. We've found some wicked cheap Halloween events that are under $20... and BARTable! From family-friendly to adults-only, there are events for everyone. Get your costumes ready and cue the haunted music...

Ghoulish and Ghastly at Camron-Stanford House (Oct 2 to Nov 6) by Lake Merritt

The Camron-Stanford House is a Victorian jewel of Oakland, and on Oct 2, the house will get even spookier with the opening of a "haunting new exhibit." Learn about the origins of various Halloween traditions, then explore some "sinister scenes" in the parlor rooms. The exhibit runs through Nov 6. Hours: 11am to 3pm. Take BART to Lake Merritt and walk seven minutes to the mansion.

Trunk or Treat | Civic Park (Oct 28, 3pm to 6pm) by Walnut Creek

Calling all ghouls, goblins, superheroes, princesses and witches! Walnut Creek invites you to trick-or-treat around Civic Park. This annual tradition is free so come dressed up in your favorite Halloween costume and get into the spooky spirit with your family. Take BART to Walnut Creek and walk 14 minutes to Civic Park.

Crawloween | San Francisco (Oct 29, 2pm to 10pm) by Civic Center/UN Plaza

Dance and drink the night away on Friday, October 29 at Crawloween, hosted by CrawlSF. Throw on your best costume and enjoy drink specials, DJs, and more at some great San Francisco bars. The crawl begins at Mayes on Polk St at 2pm and goes to 10pm. Tickets range from $12 to $45. This event is 21+. Take BART to Civic Center/UN Plaza and walk 20 minutes to Polk St.

Halloween Parade and Costume Contest (Oct 31, 3:30pm to 5:30pm) by Ashby

Bring the kids and their costumes to San Pablo Park on Halloween for a parade and contest (categories include scariest, cutest, and most creative). The Frances Albrier Performing Arts After School program will perform a "spooktacular show" after the contest. Take BART to Ashby and walk 19 minutes.

Halloween Hoopla at Yerba Buena Gardens (Oct 29) by Powell St

Yerba Buena Gardens’ annual Halloween Hoopla is Oct 29 from 12pm to 3pm in the Children’s Garden near the LeRoy King Carousel. This event features interactive performances and games for kids under 10 and craft making. There’s also a Halloween Costume Parade where everyone is welcome to show off their finest Halloween attire. This is a free event and great for families. Take BART to Powell St and walk seven minutes to the gardens.

Halloween at the Exploratorium: Den of Ghoulish Delights (Oct 27) by Embarcadero

Get ready for a refreshingly nerdy Halloween treat at the Exploratorium. It’ll be a night filled with fun and spooky Bay Area favorites including "a cemetery of dead science ideas," a leech exhibit, a live accordion player, and more. Costumes are highly encouraged for this utterly eerie evening. Take BART to Embarcadero and walk 10 minutes to the Exploratorium.
