Kids love these BARTable playgrounds

With year-round temperate weather, the Bay Area is the best place for outdoor adventure. For the young, and the young at heart, there are plenty of playgrounds and splash pads, many of which are conveniently located near BART. From climbable water dragons to a 45-foot-long slide and playgrounds with stunning views and gorgeous murals, here are a few of our favorite BARTable places to play. Pack a picnic, slather on the SPF, grab your Clipper card and enjoy a beautiful day in the sun!

Sue Bierman Park Playground | Embarcadero

This picturesque playground near the San Francisco Ferry Building is a relaxing place to watch your kiddos run wild. It's gated and clean and offers pretty views of the city's Embarcadero buildings. The giant red climbing dome is a big hit for little adventurers. Take BART to Embarcadero for a playground with a view 0.2 miles away at Washington St. and Drumm St.

Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground | Montgomery St

Head to San Francisco’s Chinatown to visit this colorful multi-level playground. Expect play equipment inspired by Chinese mythology, like a giant, climbable water dragon. Older kids will love the basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts. There’s also an on-site clubhouse. Take BART to Montgomery St for dragons, slides and more 0.6 miles away at 830 Sacramento St.

Salesforce Park | Montgomery St

This public park atop the Salesforce Transit Center has a climbing structure and a children's play area. Let the fun begin before you even get there by riding the free gondola from Fremont St. to the 5.4-acre park and living roof. After burning off steam on the play structure, jump on the walking trail and explore the 13 unique ecosystems and fountains. Take BART to Montgomery St to experience the rooftop garden and play area 0.3 miles away at 100 Fremont St.

Mission Dolores - Helen Diller Playground | 16th St Mission

At Mission Dolores—Helen Diller Playground, you can find climbing structures, sand boxes, swings and a 45-foot-long slide. There's also rock climbing, nets and ropes. Bring plenty of snacks to enjoy while soaking up the gorgeous views of the San Francisco skyline. Take BART to 16th St Mission for a playground the entire family will enjoy 0.8 miles away at 2000 Mission St.

Mission Playground | 16th St Mission

The Mission Playground has it all! Enjoy the splashpad for water play on hot days, a fenced-in playground year-round, athletic fields and beautiful murals. There's also a clubhouse and an outdoor pool with lockers. Take BART to 16th St Mission to cool off on hot San Francisco days 0.5 miles away at 19th St. and Linda St.

24th & York Mini Park | 24th St Mission

Stop by the BARTable 24th & York Mini Park on a sunny afternoon in the Mission. While it's small, it packs a punch with a playground and water features, including a cool serpent that winds its way around a splash pad. What really makes this park special, though, is the gorgeous murals and tiled sculptures. Take BART to 24th St Mission 0.6 miles away at 2824 24th St.

Snow Park | 19th St/Oakland

The bright colored Snow Park playground sits across the lake from Children’s Fairyland. It offers climbing structures, a four-seated teeter-tot, a slide and more. Combine a day at this playground near BART and a walk around lovely Lake Merritt. Take BART to 19th St/Oakland to visit a playground near the water 0.3 miles away at Harrison St. and 19th St.

Frog Park | Rockridge

Frog Park is located between Oakland's Temescal and Rockridge neighborhoods and offers a nature vibe and plenty of shade on hot days. Here, families will find wooden play structures, slides, climbing nets, monkey bars and swings. Built in 2001 by 1,300 volunteers over ten days, this cute playground near BART is worth a visit. Take BART to Rockridge for a woodsy playground 0.5 miles away at 5500 Claremont Ave.

Civic Park Playground | Walnut Creek

This fun playground near BART has multiple play structures for everyone from smaller tykes to big kids. It's a beautiful Bay Area picnic spot, features a habitat garden and has trail connections to the Iron Horse Trail and the Creek Walk. There’s also a library nearby. Take BART to Walnut Creek Station for a playground and other fun activities 0.6 miles away at 1375 Civic Dr.
