Who doesn’t want to save a pretty penny but still feel confident and stylish? Luckily, tasteful racks of used clothing, shoes, and other accessories are just as much a part of Bay Area sightseeing as the usual tourist stops. Instead of letting things pile up unappreciated or simply be discarded, vintage and consignment stores keep local fashion in heavy rotation. Peek through the aisles of these BARTable shops—where someone else’s old-school giveaway just might be your new scene-stealing garment.

No Shop | 16th St Mission

Fall coat, frilly blouse or flashy footwear—No Shop has special pre-loved finds for every day or that special occasion. But there’s more than clothes and accessories on hand: Check the selection of used records and take your new (used) heels for a spin as you spin some music from this Mission hot spot. Take BART to 16th St Mission and go 0.2 miles to 389 Valencia Street.

Out of the Closet | Civic Center

Whether you’re on the hunt for something to rock at this year’s holiday ugly sweater party or needing a legit workday look, Out of the Closet covers all the bases. Give yourself the patience to comb through the full racks and you may walk back onto BART with your hands full of primo goodies. Take BART to Civic Center and go 0.5 miles to 1295 Folsom Street.

Fashionphile | Powell

Union Square’s Fashionphile caters to closets that are more posh than funky. This is where you might find that Fendi bag that you first spotted in a magazine layout of a runway show. Take home high-end purses, shoes, and other refined accessories for a discounted price that won’t have you feeling guilty when you see the receipt. Located on the third level of Neiman Marcus. Take BART to Powell and go 0.2 miles to 150 Stockton Street.

Community Thrift Store | 16th St Mission

When you’ve got time (a lot of time) to pick through seemingly endless racks and shelves of used clothes, head to Community Thrift Store. The non-profit has coats and vintage t-shirts for days. Want to donate your excess things for a good cause? Choose what charity you want the proceeds from your sold furniture or items to go towards. Take BART to 16th St Mission and go 0.3 miles to 623 Valencia Street.

East Bay

Paisley Vintage | Downtown Berkeley

Main Street Rags | Walnut Creek

While it may have left Main Street for Civic Drive, Main Street Rags is still a Walnut Creek favorite for consignment selling and buying. Here, the tagline is “Your closet is a goldmine.” So (gold) rush on over! With its broad selection of everything from activewear to upscale jewelry, the racks are constantly refreshed to keep you guessing—and looking good. Take BART to Walnut Creek and go 0.5 miles to 1557 Civic Drive.
