Oakland Restaurant Week is back! Running ten days, March 14-24, participating restaurants promise patrons ample opportunities to savor the vibrant flavors of Oakland’s diverse and creative culinary scene. From pizzerias to Mexican, Japanese, Haitian, Burmese and beer gardens with a view — there are simply so many fantastic Oakland Restaurant Week participants to choose from. To help you decide, we’ve rounded up a few popular eateries near BART. Take advantage of the entire ten days and try as many as possible. Zachary's Chicago Pizza | Rockridge

Everyone’s favorite Chicago-style pizzeria has won over 200 Best Pizza awards, and this year Zachary’s is offering a ton of deals for Oakland Restaurant Week. For $45, restaurant goers can enjoy a medium stuffed or large thin crust pizza plus an entree salad. All canned beers and cider are $2 off. And for those who prefer to dine at home, get $5 off of grab-n-go refrigerated medium-stuffed spinach and mushroom half-baked pizzas. These are limited to one per customer and are first come, first served. Take BART to Rockridge for the ultimate indulgence 0.2 miles away at 5801 College Ave.

El Huarache Azteca | Fruitvale

A family-run restaurant since 2001, El Huarache Azteca offers authentic and flavorful cuisine from Mexico City. During this special week of the year, diners get quite the deal! Enjoy a $15 lunch special and a $35 three-course dinner menu offering an appetizer, main, dessert and drink. Expect cochinita pibil or green or red mole, and of course, their namesake — huaraches, oval tortillas filled with beans and topped with chicken or cactus. Take BART to Fruitvale for the fresh flavors of Mexico City 0.5 miles away at 3842 International Blvd.

Yonsei Handrolls | 19th Street

For a fantastic Oakland Restaurant Week deal near BART, try Yonsei Handrolls. Conveniently located across the street from the Fox Theater, the small 24-seat eatery specializes in open-faced Japanese sushi handrolls. The restaurant’s minimalist aesthetic only highlights its beautiful food. This year, the restaurant is offering a special three-course dinner for only $35. Start with the cucumber sunomono before moving on to the main course — a progression of five handrolls: zuke maguro (soy cured ahi tuna), negihama (yellowtail and green onions), salmon with sesame and lemon, black cod with truffle butter and snow crab with garlic chives. Dessert is chocolate mousse. Take BART to 19th Street/Oakland for Japanese sushi rolls 0.1 miles away at 1738 Telegraph Ave.

Portal Beer Garden & Restaurant | Lake Merritt

Looking for the perfect date night near BART? Look no further. The Portal Beer Garden & Restaurant provides a charming outdoor patio with views of Lake Merritt, refreshing beers and fresh food. Over the next 10 days, the gastropub is offering a prefix dinner menu for two ($60). To start, either split the classic Caesar salad or choose a popular appetizer, like their famous garbage bread. Then select an entrée each, like a New York steak, pasta pomodoro or a roasted beet salad, to name a few. And finally, share a chocolate pot or a slice of New York style cheesesteak, all while soaking up the beautiful water views. Take BART to Lake Merritt to dine on the lake 0.8 miles away at 1161 2nd Ave.

Burma Superstar | MacArthur

Head to Burma Superstar for a tasty Burmese lunch or dinner on one of your stops this year. Each special menu includes a three-course set meal offering restaurant favorites like tea leaf salad, mango chicken, chili beef and Burmese-style curry. Choose a starter, entrée, type of rice and a beverage. Whether you're there for lunch or dinner, you’ll also get a fried banana with ice cream. The lunch special menu is $25. The dinner menu is $50 and includes an additional entrée option and a creative cocktail. Take BART to MacArthur for a savory three-course meal and sweet treat 0.5 miles away at 4721 Telegraph Ave.

T’Chaka – Taste of Haiti | 12th St/Oakland City Center

This new Haitian Caribbean restaurant is offering a free appetizer when you order a dinner entrée over the course of the next week. All dishes are made in-house using market-fresh ingredients by their talented chefs. Colorful dinner plates include curry goat, whole snapper and Mama’s Cornish hen, to name a few. There’s a handful of appetizers to try, too, including jerk wings marinated in a traditional Haitian jerk sauce and lightly fried okra fritters made from grated malanga (taro root) with fine herbs served with spicy pikliz. Take BART to 12th St/Oakland City Center for delicious dinners and free appetizers 0.2 miles away at 901 Washington St.

Kowbird | West Oakland

Kowbird is a family-owned restaurant that creates soul food emphasizing culture and comfort. Award-winning chef Matt Horn’s smoked meats and tasty sides are worth waiting in line for. His specialty? Chicken sandwiches. This year during Oakland Restaurant Week, Kowbird is offering a can't-be-beat lunch special—a chicken bacon ranch sandwich with fries and a soda for only $16.
