Looking for Halloween events without the hassle of traffic and parking? October promises a variety of BARTable family-friendly and adult-only activities. From floating pumpkin patches and trick-or-treating to pub crawls and Halloween-themed dinner menus, there are plenty of spooky activities near BART.  So, grab your costume and your Clipper card, and have a hauntingly good time!

Halloween Jam at Children’s Fairyland | 19th St/Oakland

Children’s Fairyland is brewing up quite the Halloween extravaganza on Oct. 19, 20, 25-27. Expect decorated storybook sets, arts and crafts, puppet shows, bouncy houses, treat stations and more. There are also four daily shows, including the “Tricks & Treats” Puppet Show and performers at the Emerald City Stage. Take BART to 19th St/Oakland for a fantastic fall celebration 0.6 miles away at 699 Bellevue Ave.

Trick or Treat Street | Lafayette

On Oct. 25 from 4–6 p.m., trick-or-treat on Mt. Diablo Blvd. from Lafayette Plaza to Dewing Ave, Lafayette Circle and La Fiesta Square. This free Halloween event near BART is recommended for kiddos nine and under but is fun for the entire family. Arrive in costume with a trick-or-treat bag in hand to visit participating businesses and fill your bag with sweet treats. Take BART to Lafayette to trick-or-treat at your favorite local establishments starting 0.4 miles away at 3530 Plaza Way.

Rockridge Halloween Parade | Rockridge

Head to Rockridge on Oct. 27 between 11 a.m.–2 p.m. for their annual Halloween trick-or-treat parade. There will be costume contests and plenty of Halloween-themed activities. While here, stop by the Oakland Public Library – Rockridge Branch for crafts, stories, songs and grab a free trick-or-treat bag. College Avenue Presbyterian Church and Rockridge Little School will also have mini-pumpkin decorating and an all-ages dance party. Take BART to Rockridge to find yourself in the middle of the Halloween action.

Floating Pumpkin Patch | North Berkeley 

Do pumpkins really float? See for yourself at The Floating Pumpkin Patch on October 26. Enjoy fun activities, swim in the pool, and, of course, go home with a pumpkin. Wear your favorite costumes to the pool deck, but proper swimming attire is required to jump in. Take BART to North Berkeley and walk 0.6 miles away to 2100 Browning St.

Trunk or Treat | Concord, Walnut Creek, El Cerrito del Norte, Hayward, North Berkeley

Sometimes little legs have a hard time getting up and down long driveways. Trunk or Treat events might just be the perfect Halloween solution. There are multiple spots near BART where children can trick or treat from car to car. This means more candy, less walking. Here are a few fantastic Bay Area Trunk or Treat spots.

Halloween Hoopla at Yerba Buena Gardens | Montgomery St

Keep the Halloween fun going on Nov. 2 at the 24th annual Halloween Hoopla. Ideal for kids under 10 and their adults, festivities include a Halloween costume parade, performers from Circus Bella and Madam Z Palm Readings. Little ones will love the craft and activity tables from Children’s Creativity MuseumYerba Buena Gardens Conservancy and the Mexican Museum. Take BART to Montgomery St for Halloween festivities 0.3 miles away at 750 Howard St.

Thrill-O-Ween at Thrive City | Powell St

This outdoor Halloween event on Oct. 26 is a one-of-a-kind spooktacular experience. At Thrill-O-Ween, catch a special screening of “Despicable Me 4,” visit themed trick-or-treat stations, grab a mini pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, boogie to live entertainment and enter a costume contest. There’s also a photo booth, face painting, slime making, balloon art and more. Take BART to Powell St and walk or hop on the Muni T to the Chase Center

Chinatown Halloween Festival | Montgomery St

Waverly Lane is the place to be this Oct. 26 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Arrive with costumes, family and friends to this Halloween event in the heart of Chinatown. Activities include pumpkin painting, a not *too* scary room, a trick-or-treat lane, a costume contest, carnival games, balloon animals, lion dances and more. Many local merchants are participating, like AA Bakery Café, House of Dim Sum and so many more. Take BART to Montgomery St for Halloween fun 0.6 miles away at Waverly Place.

Trick-or-Treat at the Ferry Building | Embarcadero

Visit the San Francisco Ferry Building on Oct. 27 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. to trick-or-treat inside the Marketplace.  Get your face painted, create spooky crafts and watch a live pumpkin carving demonstration. Costumes are encouraged at this free, family Halloween event. Take BART to Embarcadero for Halloween with a waterfront view 0.3 miles away at 1 Ferry Building.

Crawloween Pub Crawl | Civic Center/UN Plaza

San Francisco’s three-day Halloween party takes place over three nights: Friday, Oct. 25, Saturday, Oct. 26 or Thursday, Oct. 31. The crawl lets participants visit over 40 of the city’s best bars in Russian Hill, North Beach, Polk Gulch, The Marina, The Tendernob and more. The massive Halloween party also has a costume contest, party buses to take you from bar to bar, and pub crawl maps, which are all included with your crawloween wristband. Take BART to Civic Center/UN Plaza to check in at a starting bar such as Mayes Oyster House at 1223 Polk St, 0.9 miles from BART.
