At El Cerrito del Norte Station on a recent weekday morning, heads turned and eyes widened at an unusual sight along the station platform. An adult male Harris hawk, named Pac-Man, sat serenely perched atop his handler’s gloved wrist preening himself. Though Pac-Man doesn’t know it, he’s got a very important job to do: manage the pigeon population at the above ground BART station.

Celebrate SF Pride 2022 and take BART to the Parade
The 52nd annual San Francisco Pride Parade and Celebration will be held this Sunday, June 26th and BART will increase service to carry attendees to and from the festivities. BART will open at 8am and will run five-line service until 8pm with special event trains as ridership warrants. After 8pm, BART runs 3-line service. BART anticipates full service on all lines.  The parade will begin at 10:30am at Market and Beale Streets, closest to the Embarcadero Station. It will end at Market and 8th Streets, closest to the Civic Center Station.

During PRIDE Month each June, we celebrate the history and triumphs of LGBTIA+ people around the world and their manifold contributions to society. BART has a long history of supporting its LGBTIA+ employees and the community at large. In addition to proudly walking in the San Francisco Pride Parade each year, BART has been a trailblazer in transit, working to secure the rights of LGBTIA+ individuals internally and externally.

Save the date to celebrate BART's 50 years in September
BART is turning 50 years old and is inviting the public to help it celebrate. Riders are encouraged to save the date for a public celebration at Lake Merritt Station on Saturday, September 10, 2022. The 50th Birthday Party and Family Fun Festival is free to the public and will be from 11am-4pm. The event will include food trucks, music, games, prizes, and the opening of a time capsule.

Image courtesy of Oaklandside.   On June 19, the United States celebrates the history and cultural contributions of Black Americans.   Juneteenth -- sometimes referred to as Jubilee Day or Freedom Day -- is commemorated on this day in remembrance of the announcement of General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865. With the order, freedom was secured for the enslaved people of Texas, the last Confederate state that legally allowed slavery.   Celebrated in some regions of the U.S.

BART launches its first-ever short story contest for Bay Area writers. In celebration of BART’s 50th anniversary this September, BART is proud to announce our first-ever short fiction contest "BART Lines." With "BART Lines," BART will shine a light on the literary voices that make the Bay Area unique, diverse, and creative. Our riders keep BART moving, and we want to highlight the best writing that the region has to offer and showcase it in our stations.
