Head to San Francisco for Fleet Week and watch the Blue Angels entertain crowds with jaw-dropping maneuvers in the sky. Lila Downs’ Dia De Los Muertos

To celebrate Mexico’s Day of the Dead and her latest release, “La Sánchez,” Lila Downs, the Grammy Award–winning vocalist, brings a special night of music to the Paramount Theatre. Her newest Sony Music album of the same name is influenced by the music of northern Mexico. It’s a tribute to recognizing the maternal influence and the vicissitudes of personal and social relationships. The soul-stirring musical, “Choir Boy,” arrives in Berkeley this weekend. This is not a coming-out story. It's a story about the power of self-love. Pharus attends the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys and is the lead singer for their renowned choir. He is not only open about his queer identity, he also questions long-held traditions. With contemporary arrangements of traditional African American spirituals and dance, Choir Boy is a brilliant, moving, and uplifting play from Academy Award-winning playwright, Tarell Alvin McCraney. The first major open-call exhibition invites Jewish-identifying artists in California to submit pieces in response to a central question: how are artists looking to the many aspects of Jewish culture, identity and community to foster, reimagine, hold or discover connection? The result? An exhibition of forty-seven artists reflecting on their connection to Judaism, the world and their own history. Italian Heritage Festival & Parade

San Francisco’s Italian-American Community celebrates its annual Italian Heritage Festival and Parade with Italian and Italian-American dignitaries, live music, performances, creative floats, and representatives of Italian and Italian-American organizations and businesses. The parade marches from Fisherman’s Wharf to Washington Square in North Beach. It’s the longest continuously running Italian Heritage Parade in the United States and celebrates the accomplishments and culture of all Italian-Americans. San Francisco Fleet Week

Fleet Week is one of the most popular events in San Francisco. The annual celebration honors the brave men and women who serve in our Nation’s sea services. Expect local musicians, military bands, pop-up vendors, family-friendly activities and more. However, the main event is the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. BART will be running longer trains over the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13 to accommodate the crowds.
Here's how to reach the various air show viewing areas with BART + Muni:
• Pier 39: Take BART to Embarcadero and use Exit A1 to transfer to the Muni F Market streetcar or bus.
• Fort Mason, Marina Green, and Crissy Field: Take BART to Montgomery St and use Exit A1. Walk to Kearny St and board the Muni 30 Stockton bus.
• Fort Mason (option 2): Take BART to 16th St Mission and use Exit B to board the Muni 49 Van Ness bus.

Pre-Season Golden State Warriors Games at Chase Center

Basketball is back! The Golden State Warriors have two pre-season home games this weekend. On Friday, they face the Sacramento Kings. On Sunday, they take the court against the Detroit Pistons. Nicky Nodjoumi and Nahid Hagigat

Presented by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, “Nicky Nodjoumi: The Personal is Political” and “Nahid Hagigat: Etched in Time” are solo exhibits with a shared history. Nodjoumi’s paintings are surreal and a kaleidoscopic of political power. Hagigat’s evocative and intimate etchings are about women and the ongoing struggle for freedom. Together, they tell the story of a family of artists whose lives are linked to political revolution. Note: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts galleries are free every second Sunday. “Wicked” at the Orpheum Theatre

It’s the last weekend to see “Wicked” in the Bay Area! The Broadway sensation is the untold true story of the witches of Oz. According to JazzTimes, Paula West is “the finest jazz-cabaret singer around.” A regular Manhattan fixture, West also sang the lead role in the reprise of the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Blood On the Fields” orotorio by Wynton Marsalis in 2013. This weekend, she explores American political music by Simon and Garfunkel, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie.
