With rain no longer in the forecast for this weekend, it's looking like a good time to get outside and enjoy some of the in-person events that we're starting to see more of. We show you the latest spot to reopen for swimming, a celebration and festival in the City, and outdoor markets on both sides of the Bay. Grab your mask and hop on BART for some socially-distanced fun.

Life is Living is an eco-equity, interdisciplinary festival that centers historically underserved neighborhoods and communities with programming in public spaces that have been otherwise neglected. For the last 13 years, the Life is Living Festival has taken place at Little Bobby Hutton Park in West Oakland but due to the impacts of COVID and wildfires the festival must be hosted virtually this year. Join 100+ artists and organizations who power the festival as an intergenerational kaleidoscope of Oakland life. It's happening all weekend and is free.
Fleet Week: The Virtual Experience | Virtual
Fleet Week returns to San Francisco, albeit a bit differently this year. The signature Fleet Week event, the Blue Angels airshow, has been postponed until 2021, but from Oct. 9-11 there will be virtual ship tours and a concert by country star Tim McGraw.
Mission Pool Reopening | 16th St Mission
San Francisco's only city-owned outdoor pool reopened this week. Mission Pool is welcoming back lap swimmers while making big changes in operations to comply with the current health order. Among the changes: temperature checks required, no more than four people in the water at any time, swimmers 14+ only, and all one-hour sessions must be reserved and purchased ($7) online. Take BART to 16th St Mission and walk 12 minutes to 101 Linda St.
Italian Heritage Parade and Festival | Montgomery St or Virtual
The San Francisco Italian Heritage Parade and Festival is excited to announce a new series of socially distanced and virtual events celebrating Italian Heritage Month. This year’s celebration will be different, but there will still be many opportunities for the Italian-American community and those who celebrate Italian culture to do so in new ways. There are events taking place all weekend, including a Washington Square Lighting and Weekend Kickoff on Friday from 6-8pm, North Beach outdoor dining and family entertainment on Saturday, and a virtual celebration on Sunday at 11am. Grab your mask and ride BART to Montgomery St and walk about 20 minutes to North Beach.
"Celebrating Ruth Bader Ginsburg" | 16th St Mission or Virtual
Sisters from all over the world are coming together to celebrate Ruth Bader Ginsburg; they will Saint Justice Ginsburg on October 9 at 7pm at Market and Castro Streets in San Francisco. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be granting her the title of “Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Mensch of Magistrates, Angel of Justice, and Tzadik Notorious RBG of the Divine Striking Dissent." If you’re in San Francisco, you can join the celebration (wearing a mask and following social distancing protocol) at the corner of Market and Castro Streets. Walk 20 minutes from 16th St Mission to get there. Or join in online, via a live feed on the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Facebook page.

de Young Museum Free Saturdays | Powell St
Free Saturdays for all Bay Area residents are back as of September 26, 2020. Timed tickets will be required. Reserve in advance online, or a limited number of tickets may be available at the membership desk at the museum. Saturdays feature engaging art experiences for the entire family, including art-making, gallery guides, and tours with discussion and sketching in the permanent galleries. Reserve your spot in advance online. Take BART to Powell St and transfer to SF Muni 5 or 44 to reach the museum.
West Coast Craft Market | Civic Center/UN Plaza
The first West Coast Craft Market of 2020 will take place Saturday, October 10, from 10am-4pm, at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. This single-day, outdoor market will be a smaller affair (and more socially distant) than you’re used to, but will bring together over 50 of the best artists and designer craftspeople in the Bay Area. A face mask is required to attend. Take BART to Civic Center/UN Plaza and catch the SF Muni 49 from Market St and Van Ness Ave to Fort Mason.
Virtuoso Vibrations | Virtual
Cool vibrations abound in this free virtual concert featuring music that spans three centuries. Join 30 minutes ahead of the concert to hear Maestro Cabrera in conversation with soloist Robyn Bollinger and California Symphony featured artists. The concert begins at 7pm and the pre-concert talk starts at 6:30pm.
San Francisco 49ers vs Miami Dolphins | Virtual
It'll be a battle of the tight ends this Sunday as the Niners take on the Dolphins. George Kittle made his return to the lineup against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday night and was borderline spectacular while catching 15 passes (on 15 targets) for 183 yards. This Sunday's game starts at 1:05pm and there are numerous ways to watch.
AKOMA Outdoor Market | Coliseum
The AKOMA Outdoor Market is a brand-new farmer’s market in East Oakland that highlights local Black and Brown farmers, restaurants, artists, and more. The Market occurs every Sunday at Liberation Park (6955 Foothill Boulevard, at the corner of Foothill Blvd and 73rd Ave) from 9am-3pm. There's also an exercise block from 9-10am with group fitness classes, ranging from yoga to mindfulness in a socially-distanced environment. Ride BART to Coliseum and transfer to AC Transit 73 to get there.
“Undiscovered” Filipino 3-Block Pop-Up Sundays | Powell St
Celebrate Filipino American History Month and support your favorite "Undiscovered" vendors with three blocks of daytime outdoor dining, artisan markets, and street art in SOMA Pilipinas. It’s a new way to stroll, shop, & dine during COVID-19 to help reboot life safely, adapt to the “new normal” and help save and support small businesses. The event runs from 11am-4pm. Take BART to Powell St and walk 13 minutes to Folsom and 6th Streets.
