Spooky season is here! Celebrate Halloween & Día de los Muertos with BARTable

Pumpkins are being carved, costumes are being conjured and altars are being crafted this week. Halloween events and celebrations for the Mexican tradition, Dia de los Muertos are packing this week's calendar with fun, new experiences. Check out these listings of BARTable things to do in the Bay Area—for kids and adults.

Family Events
It's the one time of year we're encouraged to let the kids loose in the streets - in costume and with chaperones, of course. These family-friendly Halloween events combine treats, themed activities and games for a thrilling day out with family.

Halloween Hoopla at Yerba Buena Gardens | Powell or Montgomery
On Oct. 28 from noon to 3 p.m., San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens transforms into a Halloween haven for kids with spooktacular performances and special activities like palm reading for kids and adults. Don't miss the Hoopla grand finale parade around YBG toward the end of the afternoon. Take BART to Powell or Montgomery and go 0.3 miles to 750 Howard Street.
Temescal Trick-or-Treat | MacArthur
On Oct. 29th from 4-6 p.m., the Temescal District hosts a free Trick-or-Treat event for families. Stop at merchants along Telegraph Ave for candy, take pics in front of decorated storefronts and grab spooky snacks along the way. Exit at MacArthur Station and start trick-or-treating right on 40th St.
Rockridge Halloween Parade | Rockridge
On Oct. 29 between 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Rockridge merchants along College Avenue will distribute candies to kids parading in costumes, with prizes awarded to those who dressed up best to impress. Families can pop into the Rockridge Branch Library for magic tricks, storytime and sing-alongs too. Take BART to Rockridge and walk down College Avenue between Alcatraz to Broadway.
Trunk or Treat | Concord
Win a prize for the best-decorated car trunk filled with candy at this now-annual Concord event. Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the parking lot of Grace Church, Trunk or Treat welcomes the community with food trucks, candy, games, and more. Take BART to Concord and find the festivities 0.4 miles away at 2875 The Alameda.
Berkeley Halloween Fest & Trick or Treating | North Berkeley
Enjoy trick-or-treating at 80 shops on Berkeley’s Fourth Street, Oct. 31 from 3-5 p.m. Plus, dive into face painting, a pet parade, a bubble show and story booth at Delaware Street. Take BART to North Berkeley and walk one mile to Fourth and Virginia Street.
Adult Events
If you want to avoid the pint-sized trick-or-treaters, there are tons of events for the adult who's a kid at heart. Look no further than these adult-only Halloween gatherings. Make new masked friends while having fun with devilish drinks and lively tunes when the vampires come out.

Crawloween Pub Crawl | Powell St
On Oct. 27, 28, and—of course—October 31, join a ghoulish group of thirsty revelers through a list 40+ of San Francisco bars conjuring craft cocktails, brew pours and blood-red wine. Take the streets with your costumed crew for a ghoulishly great time. Take BART to Powell St and registration is one mile away at 1223 Polk St.
Halloween Crystal Ball with The Purple Ones | Walnut Creek
Halloween doesn’t get much better than getting dressed up and dancing the night away to Prince tunes. Spend Oct. 28 with a live soundtrack by The Purple Ones and opener DJ DePope of Funk. Party starts at 6:30 p.m. Take BART to Walnut Creek and go 0.6 miles to The Garden at 1719 Bonanza Street.
Oakstop Rooftop Halloween Costume Party | 19th St/Oakland
Don your Halloween costume and strut your best moves to DJs spinning Afrobeat, hip hop and R&B. Spend Oct. 29 from 3-7 p.m. on Oakstop’s rooftop, which boasts incredible city views, sounds and—of course—adult beverages. Take BART to 19th St/Oakland and walk 0.2 miles to 1740 Telegraph Avenue.
Black Lagoon Pop-Up | Montgomery St
The Halloween Pop-up of your nightmares makes its way to Kona's Street Market for a week of fright. This immersive Halloween experience includes creepy-themed cocktails, scary role-playing from costumed characters and a zombie soundtrack to get the crowd moving. Take BART to Montgomery St then head 0.1 miles to 32 3rd St.
Día de los Muertos Events
It’s time for La Catrina, one of the most recognizable skeletons, to return in her wide-brimmed hat and feathers. Join in on the following culturally rich BARTable Day of the Dead experiences to pay homage to loved ones lost with marigolds, altars and more.

Oakland Día de los Muertos Festival | Fruitvale
On Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Fruitvale Village celebrates a “Blooming Resilience” Dia de los Muertos Festival with live music, Aztec dancing, kid-friendly activities, altars and even a lowrider showcase. Take BART to Fruitvale and head 0.3 miles to International Avenue at Fruitvale Avenue.
Day of the Dead Festival of Altars | 24th St/Mission
Explore a beautiful array of altars at Portrero Sol Park on Nov. 2, with altar-building starting at 8 a.m. and ceremonies at noon and 5 p.m. Peruse the vibrant visuals don’t forget to check out the the Ritual Poetry Circle. Take BART to 24th St/Mission and walk one mile to 2827 Cesar Chavez Street.
Annual Día de los Muertos Ritual Procession | 24th St/Mission
Starting at 7 p.m., on Nov. 2 at 22nd and Bryant Street, this beloved procession winds its way through the Mission led by Aztec dancers. Reflect on and honor those who have passed during a culturally rich alcohol-free and drug-free event. Take BART to 24th St/Mission Station and meet 0.7 miles at 22nd and Bryant Street.
San Francisco Symphony Día de los Muertos Concert | Civic Center/UN Plaza
Davies Symphony Hall hosts its special Day of the Dead production on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. This year it presents “Día de los Muertos in the Maya World” with Latin American music (plus folk art and altars in the venue lobby). Take BART to Civic Center/UN Plaza Station and go 0.3 miles to Davies Symphony Hall at 201 Van Ness Avenue.
