Where to Wi-Fi in the East Bay

The recent rains are a welcome reminder that winter indoor hibernating is fast approaching. Still, when the blankets beckon it doesn’t mean the work stops. For those who study or clock in from outside of the office on the east side of the Bay, there are plenty of cozy places wielding Wi-Fi and a warm beverage (plus more) to lure you away from the distractions of home. Pow-wow with your coworker, or keep your head down with your headphones and a private soundtrack, during a work session at one of these five BARTable East Bay favorites where an artistic flair is evident both on the walls and on the froth.

Alchemy Collective

This worker-owned cooperative boasts that “your coffee will always be served by an owner.” So, as you can expect, Alchemy’s carefully timed pour-overs match its thoughtful environment.

Jump’n Java Coffeehouse, Oakland

Here, a tropical mural adds to the lighthearted scene (to help you relax while you work) hosting food and drink, and the owner/barista, Mike, is a friendly neighborhood staple.

Arbor Cafe, Oakland

Hipster shabby chic is the call at this Temescal hive for busy workers.

Lindgren’s Coffee & Cafe, Berkeley

Lindgren’s is a small operation that roasts its own beans and houses ample outlets within its exposed brick walls. An outside patio is the option when you arrive with your furry friend.

Bica Coffeehouse

Rockridge BART station sits within view, and like the coffeeshop itself Bica’s pours are small but pack a punch.
