#virtuallyBARTable This Weekend: August 28-30

While Outside Lands may not be happening, there's still music to be enjoyed with the Inside Lands virtual event this weekend. Photo courtesy of Outside Lands.

It's another weekend indoors, but we have plenty of treats for your eyes and ears, including Grammy-winning musicians, comedy from both sides of the Bay, and some cultural enlightenment through a local museum. Here's what's #virtuallyBARTable This Weekend.

Inside Lands

As we near the festival weekend that should have been, Outside Lands presents Inside Lands, a free virtual festival streaming exclusively on Twitch. Happening on Friday and Saturday, experience two days of music and never-before-seen footage to celebrate all things Outside Lands from the past 12 years of the festival’s history. The show begins at 4pm both days. See the full lineup.

"Crazy Funny Asians"

Inspired by the blockbuster movie, see some of the Bay Area’s top comedians at San Francisco’s "Crazy Funny Asians" comedy showcase. Celebrate the Bay’s Asian-American culture and heritage with laughs. It's happening this Friday at 8pm on Zoom. RSVP and you'll get the secret Zoom link right before the show.

"Turbo Drive"

If you're a fan of the music from "Stranger Things," "Kung Fury," "Drive," "Turbo Kid," or neo-80s nostalgia, then you'll love DNA Lounge's, "Turbo Drive," the biggest and longest running synthwave party in the world. To keep you sane during the lockdown, DNA Lounge is doing webcast-only DJ sets. Fire up the lasers and fog machine and dance along from the safety of your own home. The fun runs from 8pm-midnight.

Friday Night Videos

Are you a Melissa Etheridge fan? The singer-songwriter, guitarist, GRAMMY-award winner, and activist offers up an opportunity to get to know her better. Streaming directly from her garage with a skeleton crew, Melissa shares old music videos, personal home videos and old TV performances while telling all her behind-the-scenes stories. The livestream begins at 3pm and single tickets are $10.

Savor the summer with good music from San Francisco’s "Sofar Solstice", an online listening room supporting local artists. With live instrumentation, charismatic vocals, emotionally charged delivery, and narrative lyrics this 5pm show introduces “Live with Samaria”. An Oakland-based singer-songwriter; Samaria, whose style, voice, and willingness to take chances make her a rarity as she climbs to become a R&B star and has quietly been touted the best kept secret in the Bay Area.

Comedy Oakland

Laughter is still the best medicine in this crazy time. Tune in to this free show at 7pm both Friday and Saturday with more chances to laugh at comedians from the likes of “Comedy Central”, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, “World Series of Comedy”, and more. Shows are free to watch on Zoom. Experience live online comedy at its finest and giggle yourself into feeling good!

Chabot Space & Science Center's Virtual Telescope Viewings

Join Chabot Space & Science Center’s resident astronomers on Facebook Live every Saturday evening live from Chabot’s Observation deck. Each week, astronomers will guide us through a spectacular night sky viewing through Nellie, Chabot‘s most powerful telescope. Astronomers will also be available for questions. The viewing begins at 9pm.

Saturday Night Opry

The Grand Ole Opry might be closed to fans but that doesn’t mean it’s ‘closed’ to fans. The famous front doors to the venue may be shut but performances there are still making history! Come together for a night of fun and music directly from the Opry stage as Jon Pardi, Runaway June, and Pam Tillis step into the circle and keep the music playing.  Join the livestream at 7pm.

Enjoy a three-hour multi-performer multi-genre extravaganza with a “loop-on/loop-off” concept featuring both electric looping acts and acoustic acts. See performers from across the country in special musical performances. The festival runs from 4-7pm.

Living Room Dance Party

Notoriously recognized as “Obama’s DJ," DJ Mel is hosting a nationwide virtual dance party – because you have the right to fight to dance (safely inside, of course). Join the free dance party from 4-8pm direct from your living room and let the good vibes take over!

"Black Laughs Matter"

Circling back to laughter is truly the best medicine, support Black comics as they come together for "Black Laughs Matter," an online comedy show live from San Francisco. Hosted by comedian and Berkeley native Chris Riggins, the show this week features Jay Washington (Comedy Central/The Laugh Factory) and Warhol Kaufman (Emcee, Comic & TragicPoet). The show begins at 8pm and is free but donations are welcome. Tune in for some feel-good chuckles.

"Dance of Dreams"

The SF Ballet is typically on hiatus during the summer but with the 2020 Spring season interrupted, they took the opportunity to make a film. “Dance of Dreams” is a dance film by Benjamin Millepied for the ballet with gorgeous choreography in some of the Bay Area’s most iconic locations. Set to “d’Amour” from “Vertigo,” six dancers take the natural stage and connect with the City - it will take your breath away. Sit back and get cozy to watch this beautiful film.

Sunday is Funday and if you’re looking for some new inspiration in art and/or food, look no further than the San Francisco Asian Art Museum “Museum From Home” page. From meditative art videos, virtual exhibition tours, art activities, and recipes from local chefs, there is surely something there to lift your spirits, help you relax, provide some fun and just thoroughly enjoy.
