Summer film screenings under the stars

Just because summer signals a relinquishing of walls to rollick in the great outdoors, it doesn’t have to mean giving up your love of film.

Summer movie series bring the passion for the big screen out from the dark theater, and it brings you out from any confined seating situation.

At one of these seasonal events where you can take in a plotline while you take in the stars, revisit a blockbuster or discover a cult classic that somehow slipped under your radar back in the day. Bring your BART ticket, blanket and homemade batch of popcorn; leave your money, because these movies are free.

As if people need another reason to hang out at Dolores Park and Union Square on the weekend, the beloved San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation produces this annual summer Saturday night go-to. All films begin at dusk.
