Explore early California history at the Casa Peralta and San Leandro History Museum.

Inside Casa Peralta, built in 1869, you’ll find antique furniture, original bookcases, dress closets and portraits of the Peralta family.

Tours of Casa Peralta are available on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 3pm, based on docent availability. Call (510) 577-3975 first to confirm tours are available.

Tours can be challenging due to steep stairs.  There is no access for wheelchair users, however, work will begin soon to provide a wheelchair lift for visitors to the first floor (the main part of the house).

Bring a picnic lunch and spend some time among the tall trees and unique prize-winning dahlia garden located on the grounds. This area is open every day, 30 minutes after sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. John McLaren, the landscape architect who completed Golden Gate Park, also landscaped the Casa Peralta gardens.

Behind Casa Peralta you’ll discover The Little Brown Church, originally a classroom wing of the First Presbyterian Church built in San Leandro in 1867.

Next to Casa Peralta is the San Leandro History Museum. There, you can view artifacts from early Ohlone inhabitants and see Peralta family belongings such as hair-clips, frames, personalized drinking cups and spectacles.

Learn the history behind San Leandro’s agriculture roots, including the origins of the first Cherry Festival held in 1909. This has become an annual event held in early June, just one block from the Museum.
