Shop small and win

The quaint stores of our local shopping districts seem to sparkle a little brighter during the holidays. The antique shop with the bell on the door that greets you as you enter. The local baker offering seasonal treats. The neighborhood shop with the quirky knick-knacks for your mantle.

Celebrate BARTable small businesses on Saturday, November 28 – Small Business Saturday. Make your shopping trip even more celebratory by entering to win one of 10 $25 American Express Shop Small gift cards, courtesy of the Small Business Saturday Coalition. See below for sweepstakes details.

Whether it’s Rockridge, Downtown Walnut Creek or the Mission, get out, ride BART and enjoy the personal touch of a local small business.

Many small businesses are hosting fun events on November 28. Here are just a few.

Take BART to 12th Street/Oakland City Center and stroll a couple of blocks into Old Oakland. Start your shopping trip at Marion and Rose’s Workshop, featuring American made home products, kitchen gadgets, gift sets and art. On November 28, they’ll also have local “maker” goods and tastings of locally-made chocolates. Marion and Rose’s is located at 491 9th Street in Old Oakland.

Other shops and restaurants in Old Oakland will also be open and offering specials for the day.

Just up Broadway in Oakland is the Show and Tell Concept Shop, another Small Business Saturday participant. Show and Tell features hats, tees, skin care and accessories and is part of a two-day “retail crawl” and vendor market with 50 other local and independent vendors. Show and Tell is located at 1427 Broadway in Oakland.
