Give the Creek a peek
County Connection Hours:
BART Station:Walnut Creek
Transfer to:"Free Ride Downtown Trolley" County Connection Route 4
Whether you’re looking for some pleasant al fresco dining or the Bay Area’s original micro-ice creamery, it’s time to give "The Creek" a peek. If you do, you’ll discover there is life through the tunnel, after all.
Start your trip to Walnut Creek by catching the County Connection Free Ride Downtown Trolley (Route 4) for an easy ride from the Walnut Creek BART station all the way into Downtown Walnut Creek. The trolley runs every 15 minutes on weekdays, every 20 minutes on weekends. Visit the County Connection website for full schedule and a route map.
The Free Ride makes its way to Broadway Plaza, home to dozens of department stores, shops and restaurants.
Downtown Walnut Creek is eminently walkable, so after shopping at Broadway Plaza, stroll up Main Street to Sasa for a quick bite. The Japanese influenced restaurant (ironically located in the historic building that originally housed the Walnut Creek Meat Market, circa 1910) includes tempura, sushi and sashimi. Delicious (and reasonable) lunch specials are your best bet. Try the tempura prawn lettuce wraps; salmon, chicken and beef skewers; spicy tuna rolls or a hot spoon.
For dessert, hit up Lottie’s Creamery, for a house-made waffle cone of small-batch ice cream. The rotating menu features favorites like vanilla salted almond toffee; ginger green tea toffee; and cinnamon honey. Yummy specials include crème fraiche fig swirl.
Once you’re reinvigorated, jump across the street, whether the kids are with you or not, to peruse the selections at The Candy Counter. The colorfully filled bins and apothecaries alone will draw you in and you won’t want to leave without picking up a treat or two to save for later. Heading down Main Street, pop into the unique Rivendell Bike, Book and Hatchet shop for a gift purchase or to just take in the experience – it’s a fun little find! Or duck into Main Street Rags to check out their great selection of women’s and men’s beautifully selected consignment clothing and accessories.

Wrap things up with a cappuccino or some refreshments and a snack at 54 Mint IL Forno before heading back to BART. The last Free Ride makes it back to the Walnut Creek BART station at 9:46pm on weekdays, 6:51pm on weekends, so you have plenty of time to explore The Creek.
