For those looking for a good workout while enjoying East Bay park scenery, Garin Regional Park offers lovely trails and picnic areas to explore.

Nestled in the Hayward hills, Garin Regional Park is a 26-minute bicycle ride from the South Hayward BART Station. Cyclists can follow Dixon Street to Industrial Parkway, then bike from Mission Boulevard to Garin Avenue, where the fun really begins.

Pushing up the incline, cyclists are rewarded with a view of the city down below, and Garin Avenue leads right into the park. It's open 8am to 8pm daily (no need to pay the $5 parking fee if on you’re bike!). If the weather is warm, cool down at the benches located underneath the large, shady trees before embarking on your two-wheeled tour.

The trails along Garin Park are shared by bicyclists, equestrians, hikers and fishermen alike.

Note: There are some trails that are specifically meant for equestrians and hikers only, which are clearly marked with “no bicycle” signs.

Some of the trails in the flatter region of the park are easy to ride and are shaded by trees, however, the hilly areas provide a sunny adventure for more serious bikers, and let’s not forget, provides stunning 360-degree views. The hilly areas are also home to grazing cattle, so watch out for leisurely cows passing through and remember to keep all marked gated closed.

Stop by Jordan Pond, which was constructed in 1987, and you'll likely spot anglers reeling in largemouth bass, bluegill or sunfish.

Garin Regional Park also has a visitor center (located in a barn) that is open on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day from 11:30am to 6pm. Enjoy a collection of antiques on display that tell the story of Garin’s rich ranching and farming history, and gives context to the vintage farming machinery displayed around the park.

The park’s main entrance is also dotted with picnic tables, benches and open grasslands for those looking to enjoy their lunch under grand Oak and Redwood trees or fly a kite. No matter what activity you choose at Garin Regional Park, getting there by BART and bike is a fun way to spend a day out in nature.

The Garin Barn Visitor Center preserves Garin Park’s farming and ranching history.
