Earth Day Celebrations Begin with BART

What's the most efficient vehicle in the Bay Area? A Tesla, perhaps? Or maybe a model from Hyundai or BMW? None of these, in fact. The answer is BART! On average, a BART rider gets the equivalent of 224 miles per gallon, which is almost double even the most fuel efficient cars. During peak commuting periods, that number increases to 422 miles per gallon. Riding BART and joining us in our commitment for a sustainable future is just one of the ways you can help preserve Mother Earth.

Earth Day celebrations begin Saturday, April 20 and there are myriad ways to celebrate across the Bay. Whether you want to help beautify our parks and open spaces or have an active car-free day with a BARTable walk or bike ride, there is something for everyone.

Are you on board? National Get on Board Day is Thursday, April 25 — it's a day when transit agencies across the country will be touting the many benefits of public transportation.
